Flightradar24 online tracking showed that the Embraer Legacy 600 (flight number RA-02795) fell off the radar at 18.11 Moscow time. An unconfirmed video clip posted on social media showed a plane that looks like a private jet falling out of the sky. Another unconfirmed clip showed burning wreckage on the ground.
\nThe cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but Prigozhin's allies quickly accused the Russian Defense Ministry of murdering him. Gray Zone, a Telegram channel with more than 500,000 subscribers linked to Wagner, hailed him as a hero and a patriot who had died at the hands of unidentified people it called "traitors to Russia."
\nRussian investigators launched a criminal investigation. Unnamed sources told Russian media they believed the plane had been shot down by one or more surface-to-air missiles, according to Reuters. Neither Reuters nor the Guardian could confirm that.
\nThe other five passengers were named as Sergey Propustin, Evgeniy Makaryan, Aleksandr Totmin, Valeriy Chekalov and Nikolay Matuseev. The crew was named as commander Aleksei Levshin, co-pilot Rustam Karimov and flight attendant Kristina Raspopova.
\nIn addition to Utkin, Prigozhin had been accompanied on the plane by a cameraman, Wagner's logistics chief, and Prigozhin's personal security detail,according to Fontanka, a news outlet in St. Petersburg, which has covered Prigozhin's operations extensively.
\nThe plane showed no signs of trouble until an abrupt descent in the last 30 seconds,according to flight tracking data. It made a "sudden vertical descent", said Ian Petchenik of Flightradar24. Within about 30 seconds, it plummeted more than 8,000 feet from its cruising altitude of 28,000 feet. "Whatever happened happened quickly," Petchenik said.
\nThe jet type has a good safety record, with only one recorded accident in more than 20 years of service, and it was not related to mechanical failure. Embraer said it was aware of a crash in Russia involving a Legacy 600 jet, but it had no further information on the case and had not provided support services to the jet since 2019, when the plane was placed under international sanctions.
\nThere was little surprise abroad at Prigozhin's apparent death.After a briefing on the incident, US President Joe Biden said: "I don't know for sure what happened. But I'm not surprised... There's not much going on in Russia that Putin isn't behind, but I don't know enough to know the answer."
\nRussia, meanwhile, hasalso relieved General Sergei Surovikin of his command of the Russian space forces,in the highest-ever firing of a military chief after Prigozhin's failed coup. Surovikin was seen as an ally of Wagner in the Ministry of Defense and questions had been raised about whether he or other senior commanders aided the mutiny or had prior knowledge of Prigozhin's plans.

The US will begin training Ukrainian F-16 pilots in October
During a briefing at the Pentagon on Thursday, Brigadier General Pat Ryder said the United States would begin training Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 in October.
"After English-language pilot training in September, F-16 flight training is expected to begin at Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, Arizona in October with the 162nd National Guard Wing," Ryder said.
"While we cannot currently provide specific numbers for the number of Ukrainians who will participate in this training, we expect it to include several pilots and several dozen maintenance technicians," he added.
